ROLE OF A GOVERNOR
As set out in our Code of Conduct for the Governing Body document, the governing body has the following core strategic
functions:
functions:
Establishing the strategic direction by:
Setting the vision, values, and objectives for the school
Agreeing the school improvement strategy with priorities and targets
Meeting statutory duties
Ensuring accountability by:
Appointing the Headteacher
Monitoring progress towards targets
Performance managing the Headteacher
Engaging with stakeholders
Contributing to school self-evaluation
Ensuring financial probity by:
Setting the budget
Monitoring spending against the budget
Ensuring value for money is obtained
Ensuring risks to the organisation are managed
To ensure these core strategic functions are met, each individual governor has a role to play within the governing body. While the role demands a level of time and effort, the Governing Board work together as a team and all accept fair responsibility in effectively meeting our statutory duties.
As individual governors we are expected to:
rigorously and consistently monitor School Development Priorities and data to ensure progress
participate in events and training opportunities throughout the year
be a link governor for a subject area or key stage
ask questions to explore issues further
ensure we deliver the very best education possible for the children in St Thomas More Catholic Primary School
seek to provide the appropriate balance of support and challenge so that the school fulfils its statutory duties
strive to build further on achievements.
If you need to contact the Governors to raise any issue in confidence, you can do so either by letter via the school office or by email to office@stm.bexley.sch.uk for the attention of the Chair, Gina Milbank.
