Early Years Foundation Stage

Welcome to Early Years at STM. We have great indoor and outfoor facilities in our separate EYFS building, for our oversubscribed Reception cohort. 


Topic-based learning

Our topic based learning is focused on meeting all 7 areas of learning. We have a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated learning throughout the day, in both our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

Phonics

In EYFS, we have a big focus on early reading. We currently use Little Wandle as our phonics scheme; please see the Little Wandle Autumn 1 and Autumn 2 overview below:

We learn lots through play and encourage children to make links to their own learning. 


Teachers and teaching assistants provide academic and holistic support for all children in EYFS. We aim to develop independence and prepare our children to move up to Key Stage 1 by the end of their time in Reception.
